CAN I GET CREDIT FOR THE VIRTUAL WORKSHOP?

While Color Connection is unable to grant credit for its workshops directly, you may consider the following:

  1. In some states teachers have been allowed continuing education credits for projects done on the Web. We have no way of knowing if your state or district will allow this, but it would not hurt to check with your administrators. Show them what you are doing with us and show them the end result when you assemble your own Verb Wall. Perhaps they will give you the credit if possible. I will make a certificate for you if you do this VWVW, put up your wall and send me a photo of yourself and your students. I have no idea if anyone will accept it for credit. Be SURE to check first.

  2. Some districts grant local staff development credit for district-sponsored trainings. Some teachers have told us that their department plans to arrange an in-service for groups of teachers who will meet to experience and discuss the "Virtual Workshop" for credit. You might want to consider exploring this option in your district. I think that having a group of interested teachers do this together would be the best way. That way you can share ideas. I would suggest getting a large screen TV for the meeting room.

  3. Consult with a local college or university to see if their foreign language and/or teacher training department(s) will check out the VWVW and offer credit for advanced training. This is just a possibility that was suggested by an administrator, and it really does make sense. She is planning to write the proposal for teachers in her district to be able to get the credit at their local university. Search for "movers and shakers," administrator and people at the universities who really CARE, hopefully, you will find them.

This has no serious value as a lesson, but all foreign language teachers appreciate the humor of this synopsis of CARMEN.
